Poetry Corner with Ivy and Friends: July Poetry Challenge

WELCOME BACK!

Hello Poetry Corner Friends!

It's such a great pleasure to have you all here with us again. We have one great poetry challenge for you. The challenge was not that difficult but it sure was interesting receiving the submissions. You'll see why.

ENJOY!

POETRY CHALLENGE

Let's bring Shakespeare into 2019.

Poets were asked to write a poem using atleast one or more of Shakespeare's famous characters (see image) in their poems. The genre of the poem was up to the poet.

HAPPY READING!

POETRY

No Fairytale Ending by Jeffery Shirey

Oh Romeo!
Where's your Capulet?
You both faked your demise,
And now where is Juliet?
You were too young too fall in love,
And your families knew better.
They may have hated each other,
But blame that on your father and mother.

Hey Romeo!
Now don't go doin foolish things,
Like drinking real poison.
No woman is worth dying for,
Or taking a permanent vacation.
She may love you now,
But in five-years you'll see.
She is just like the rest,
And soon to bring you joyous misery.

Now Romeo!
I think you made a big mistake!
That Juliet is a heartbreaker,
Her love is like a wooden stake.
Soon as you turn your back,
She'll plunge deep into your chest.
From behind you with a smile,
You'll have some gold,
But she'll take the rest.
Leave that woman son,
That would be best.
Walk away before she has you taking
a long long winter's rest.

Romeo and Juliet by Lozt Poet

Romeo and Juliet are still
alive today,
Except they aren't known by
Montague or Capulet.

They're families are still at war
and won't see eye to eye,
They refuse to see the
important thing and won't even try.

They let things like skin color,
religion, and gender get in the
way,
They refuse to see the truth
and won't listen to the
important things the heart
tries to say.

They won't allow themselves
to ride the winds of change,
Hold fast in the old ways and
won't believe that love can be
strange.

Some people aren't happy or
never found their wedded bliss,
And because of that they don't
want anyone to find their
happiness.

So if you find your one true
love, whoever it is, don't let
them go.
Don't ever be afraid to find
your Juliet or Romeo.

O Romeo by I.M. Horne

Romeo,
wherefore art thou Romeo?
Is thou not hiding to sneak a peek,
As a lay upon this silk,
Fingers gliding slowly over my peak,
And I whisper the name I should not speak,
'Romeo Montague'
Do thou enjoy the view?
I belong to you,
But until we can lay as one,
My fingers will have to do,
I know you're here,
But do not speak,
So my family will not seek,
You should leave,
But keep in mind,
This heavenly peek,
I bare all to you,
Before going to sleep.

THE END

AMAZING!

I have to say that this was very enjoyable to read. Three poets with no knowledge of what one another were writing, decided on the same subject but had absolutely different views. I love when that happens.  I think Romeo and Juliet will never be read the same after this.

Thank you, Jeffery Shirey, Lozt Poet and I.M. Horne, for making this challenge your own. Your talents has no limits. I look forward to seeing you join in on future challenges.

Until next time.
